You are here : The Building

SciTec will create an inspirational environment and expand learning opportunities. Imaginative and vibrant, the SciTec building is distinctive, both in terms of its design and the green technologies it embraces. Its landscape is designed to maximise sustainability, minimise impact on existing features and provide a focus for learning – the building itself will be a tool for developing understanding of the issues of sustainability and the appreciation of nature.

A new lecture theatre will host a year-round programme of events and visiting speakers. This facility will be available to the whole School and we intend to offer it for use by the wider Oundle community. Exhibition and cafe areas will provide places to meet and see SciTec at work.

The SciTec building has an extensive "green" theme. Integral to the design are photovoltaic roof panels and solar water heaters. The planned sedum roof acts as a rain-water filter and, allied to the lake, provides a "grey water" system for flushing toilets, while the high mass of the building will provide thermal stability and efficiency. SciTec will act as an educational resource, providing opportunities for scientific monitoring and experimentation.

Oundle conducted a competitive process to select the architects who designed SciTec.  Feilden Clegg Bradley are the London and Bath based architectural practice who were selected from this process on the basis of their excellent interpretation of the School's brief.  FCB are specialists in educational architecture and their current projects include the design of a new 1200 place secondary school in Camden and three City Academies in Bristol, Paddington and Northampton.
